Acoustic guitar track is posted.
Posted a virgin mix of your acoustic. Very nicely done. There was just one little spot where you were late coming back in at 2:20. I am quite sure I can fix it.
If I had your last little section of vocal on the end I'd have everything I need to finish this..
Thanks Keeper. Nice mix. I just pasted that arrangement together. Maybe I will b able to give a smoother performance all the way through. My hat's off to the original composer...a lot of nice classical riffs. I will try to get that ending posted soon. (As well as a nother take of the whole song) I have a take of it. It doesn't sound very good to me. This vocal is very long winded. Something I am not acustomed to.
I see what you mean about the missing guitar notes at 2:20. I should have that. I will post it.
The 2:20 part is easy enough for me to fix if you don't have it.
Well I want you to be happy with the take that is used Marc. Did you hear any improvement in my vocal edits? I did a slight pitch corrections and slight timing tweaks on a couple of the words. It felt like you had it nailed on about 95% of it, and I did some correction on the other 5%. That's pretty damned good considering it's a new song to you and someone else's to boot.
Got the missing guitar part posted. Also posted the ending line. It's not very good. But it will have to do for now.
The vocal ending is slightly out of time. Needs a slight adjustment.
I listened to the vocal mix again. I can definitlely do better than that.
Ok well at your convenience you can do another take Marc. You have a strong voice and I sure don't see this song as out of your abilities by any means.
I'll go ahead and work with what you've sent up in the meantime, and you can monitor my work in case it comes around. I have some good editing tools so I can do a lot. So go ahead and proceed with whatever yu have planned and I'll proceed with this as plan B. When you get something you like better, it'll be easy enough to put it in.
Ok I put the fix in that you supplied for the 2:20 part, and tweaked the ending a little. That seemed to have worked like a charm Marc! Nice work. Your playing and especially the intonation and sound of your guitar is excellent! I often hear acoustics that need fretwork and have poor intonation. Yours sounds excellent IMHO.
The mix I just posted still has Tad's vox in so it's still a bit scratchy and a pop or two. I'm working on editing your vocals to mix. Just wanted you to hear it thus far. I'm pleased with the guitar, and hope you are as well.
I think I agree that a new take on the vox, or even just the ending would be better, but I'm going to edit mix an edited mix anyhow. I hear what you mean about the sustained parts giving you a problem. It feels like breathing more than anything. Like you need to get a bigger breath to sing some parts. Your voice certainly suits this. So you might rehearse the breathing (grabbing more air) on the problem areas.
Nice work so far Marc!
BTW: is you look at the File Manager, you can clean up older tracks that are in your name with the big red X. I have what you've posted thus far in my archives so it's safe to clean it up if you like.
First full mix is posted. I want to listen a bit. I have some ideas of a couple things I can do to help this. it's not too bad for a first mix.
Marc-
Since you worked out the chords, you could probably tell me what key this is in right? I'd like to try Anteres or Melodyne on this and see how well it does on smoothing out the pitches...
TIA
It is in the key of B major. It definitely needs some pitch correction. I use pitch correction on all my vocals. Hopefully before to long it won't be necessary.
Ok I'll give some correction a try. I use it on mine when necessary. It's a goal to use it as little as possible, but I have to work on my vocals too. It's a labor of love.
I'll give you full access to the tracks if you want. I didn't hear any timing problems on the 2:20 bit, so maybe you should do that pariticular edit. I think you have the raw materials thaere since you recorded it, but if you need other tracks or mixes, let me know. I'll gladly put the guitar track in that you edit. I wouldn't even mind letting you mix and master it when we get to that point. Let me know what you need Marc. I'm with ya on what you've said.
I reposted the acoustic guitar. This one should work fine. Use this one.
Marc-
I posted a mix with your new guitar in and with correction applied to the vox. I think that worked very well. There are just a few places I'm hearing a hickup (which I can correct), and I'm feeling much better about the pitch now. Actually in general it's comming around. What do you think? May have a final real soon.
I posted what could be a final.
Can you please post a voxless of the new mix?

i listened to your latest mix with no vox - surely one of the most beautiful things i've heard in a long while. just gorgeous, guys. the violin sends slivers of sorrow thru my heart. UH HUH!!!
anne
marc - sweet job on the vocal - just wonderful.
wwwaaaahhhhhhh!
crybaby cozean
Amen Anne. Billy did a magnificient job on this. I knew he would. That's why I approached him about this when I first heard it. I don't know if Tad has heard it with Marc's guitar in there or not. He doesn't respond, to e-mails. Actually Billy hasn't either..
I think Marc nailed the acoustic, and it's nice to hear an acoustic with no intonation issues.
This should be good after Marc does his re-tracking of the lead vocal. I agreed with him, about the retracking. He has the voice for this. So I'm still hopeful.
Haven't heard a peep from Tad since he moved to Japan. Don't know if he checks his gamil account or not.
He has written a tremendous piece here, both musically and lyrically. A huge talent, and both Marc, and Billy have lent themselves to this really well.
Looking forward to Marc's next post. He has a good voice. Topnotch guitarwork, and string section.
oops g-mail that is. My fat fingers.. hehehe
oh - this is billy the postman on here, too?
his stuff is always yummy.
no word from Tad in my world, either.
so thankful you didn't let this dry up and die.
good job, fred!
Well we both know his calling was not really postman....
Yes, I brought this to him as soon as I heard it. It's never a mistake to get him in on a project. He had said he would sing and play guitar on this too but it never happend, so I approached Marc. He's doing great job too.
Tad has given me to go ahead to get this produced, before he disappeared into the world of peer pressure (Japan). So hopefully he will like it once we are done.
Anne-
You should hear some of the other tracks I've worked on with Billy doing orchestration. You'd know why he popped into my head to do orchestra. I can point you to them if you like.
He actually has quite a few of them on our radio stations here. Say the word and I'll point you to them. He's a good resource that you have access to here at F-Jam. Want to hear more? I'll show ya in the discussion blog if so. He has quite a bit to show.
I have revised lead vox ready to upload but am able to do so.
Revised vocal is posted.
I hope it is a little better than the last one.
Thanks Marc-
I'll put it into the mix in the next day or so.
I'm feeling pretty good about this take Marc. I think you nailed it for the most part. I hear a few small adjustments that need to be made, but nothing like what was called for on the first take. Good job buddy! I'll post a mix up here soon... Just want to work with it a bit.
:-)
Ok have a listen to AP_mix_01_30.mp3
This is really well done Marc! There is one word I am not totally satisfied with for pitch. I want to listen a little bit to be sure it's not just ear fatigue. I've been working on this a couple hours now. So I'll listen again with fresh ears. If my ear goes to this one spot again I'll do a slight tweak. It's very close. We are talking about a decimal point of a step move sharp I think. I'm not going to tell you where I'm looking at, and see if you mention the same place.
The tweak I'm talking about will polish this diamond. It's turned out very well I think and this will be an easy tweak to bring it to perfection.
Listen a bit and see if you ear brings you to the same place mine did. If not I may be reacting to fatigue.
Very nicely done all the way around Marc!
I'm not sure which word you are talking about. There is still a few pitch problems throughout. I hope to post another version.
Marc-
If you are game, let's identify the pitch problems together and you can do punchins? That might make it easier. What do ya say?
Anne-
Check out the FLASH upgrades I've put in place here that address problems Mac users have had at F-Jam.
We now have a Flash stream for every new upload on the project pages. It is dynamic and one will appear automatically for each upload.
The other is a Flash uploader, complete with upload status indicator, and the ability to upload multiple files at once. This is connected to the "Post Audition" button at the top of the project page. Post any file if you want to see it work. I can remove it afterwards...
:-)
testing, testing.....
Yeah I see your upload at the top of the list, and in the streaming section too. Better huh?
Hi Marc-
The starting point for navigating the site is QUICKSTART on the left hand side of the dropdown menu at the top of the project page here. That menu should hold everything you need and QUICKSTART is the starting point.
I uploaded a new lead vocal track with pitch correction. I also loaded a small harm vocal part.....not meant to be heard loudly. I think you will see what I mean.
Ok I see them Marc. Thanks.
Check your e-mail. I sent you an invite to join this studio blog. Once you accept the invitation and join, your comments will bypass moderation and show up here on the project pages immediately.
Since you were here last, we've had to institute comment moderation, because we were getting spammed. So now non-members who post here have their comments moderated, and filtered. Once you join your comments will bypass the moderation.
I'll put your tracks in as soon as I can get organized in the studio here, and I'll get back to ya with a mix. Glad to see ya back at F-Jam...
Oh BTW: You see we've put up yet another forum. The other one we had lost it's e-mail service when Billy sent out an announcement to over 1000 members... LOL
The forum disappeared and so did Billy... Heheh but we put up another forum, and now we use google for projects so the e-mail burden is kept low on the forums. Google can handle whatever we throw at it....
Talk to ya soon.
Now I just gotta find my saved project file for this so I can import and mix. I moved it into archive backup some time ago. Didn't really think we were gonna finish it so it got put away and I moved on. Gotta find the latest file. I know I have it, just gotta find it.
:-P
Nice one Marc! I agree the pitch is much better on this. Here's a normalized mix. Any suggestions on what it needs to be a final?
Acoustic_Prayer_12_08_Mix<-- click this
It sounds pretty good to me Keeper. Just a minor note: I would suggest making the harm vocal softer, more in the background. I will post an example.
