Hey Eddie
This sounds really nice.
Just a suggestion but you could drop in the occasional double bass drum to hook in with the bass line and maybe a bit of background tom work to build in the second half.
Great stuff
Ian
Feel free my friend. If you could add on top of it to fill it out....that would be great. You are always welcome....eddie
OK Eddie I'll see what I can do
Are you working with the seperate tracks on this or is it a fixed mix.Seps would give a bit more flexibility.
I'd also like to know the key and chording....
It's in the key of C. C-D...then C-E.

Thanks Eddie. Did you get my PM about your password etc.?
Hi Eddie
Just a nudge about the seps
All is not lost if you dont have them but it would be easier if you have.
Cheers
Ian
I'm uploading all the seps I have. The drums and pads are mixed together. I hpe you can work around that. It was my 1st Ableton Live project and I have no clue what I'm doing on it yet......eddie
No Probs Eddie I know what it's like with new software. The seps will help no end.
Cheers Ian
Hi Eddie-
I posted an idea I had for some leads. I know there are some places it goes out of key. If you like it in general, I can redo the parts that goe out.
Where you say it goes to an E, I've been hearing a G. Maybe it's the two together?
In other words, the chord alone might be an E, but when you put that load over it it becomes a different chord I think. My ear kept taking me to a G.
Any thoughts?
Oh and if you don't like this don't worry. I can come up with other ideas...
Just noodling about.
I'm digging that sound Fred. It would be awesome if you would do the mix on this tune as well. You guys seem to have a better ear for that. My Forte' is cranking out backing tracks......eddie

I'd be glad to Ed. I'm picturing just using part of my audition. Putting in some leads in key places, along with yours. I have some rythm type keys I want to show too. I had also been singing some vocal melodies ala David Gilmour. I'm in the midst of allergy season right now or I'd have tried a vocal already.
So yes I visualize just a few sections of the keys leads used. If you'd like to do a couple takes all the way through like I did on the keys, we can use the best parts, when we arrange this. It's easy to discard parts we don't need. Better too much than not enough.
I'm still thrown by the E. I'm wondering if laying the lead part over it doesn't change it from being a major chord. My theory is not too good. I have to depend on my ear.
To my ear a G sounded better in there than E.
I can demo what I'm talking about if you want to help me explore the theory of this. Remember I'm a drummer who is out of his element with this type of theory.
I'll be honest Fred...The only music theory I use is what sounds good. I often mix notes up according to a particular mood. Feel free to switch key or modes if you can. There may be a loop in there that is ringing a G chord. As I said I was experimenting with a new program...so anything is possible....heh

Ok Eddie. Sounds like a plan... I'm trying to get organized with all that I have going on so I can do some more auditions. Watch this space!
Hey Eddie
Just posted a drum idea.... the original drum track was combined with the syths so I instead of trying to edit that I have recorded another complete drum part over the top.As the original drums stayed put with no fills it sits nicely along with the new one where I have tried to hook in with the bass and give the drums a bit more life. You may find that the mix is now a little drum heavy.
Anyway see what you think as always the drum track is completely editable both for sounds and arrangement.
Cheers Ian
Ok guys, here goes nothing! I've been checkin things out quietly in the background, time to get my cherry broke. I hope I'm in the right place for the song (ROCK) Mellow) I worked up a piano and organ track for it. I also included the midi tracks for you guys that have the mega sampler setups so you can drop in a different sound if you like. I guess I go to the audition link to drop off the files. If I screw-up you can always stab me through the heart with a dongle and telecast it on itube! Bob B.T.W. I think what you're hearing is a G bass played over an Em chord. the chord structure is C Dm C Em there are some Em6 and EDim developed in the dense section but who's counting?
OK, You can kill me for messing up with the piano file, at least I think I've got the organ file right. Cut and paste, or just use some good old fashioned envelopes to fade the volume in and out as needed. It's a nice dirty overdriven B3 patch through an old Wurlitzer tone cabinet. I've got the midi files if yoou want them, so you can use your own patches, just drop me an email.
OK I sent a ZERO K file. Guess I'll try that audidtion again. DAAAAAAAAAH
SUCCESS! Really guys, I'm not as dumb as I look, it's all an act so my wife doesn't ask me to do too much around the house.....eats into studio time you know. OK, this is the Roland RD700SX SR02 card Stienway patch.... I like the depth of it.
Hey Bobbylee
10/10 for effort for learning the system.....well done.
Hope Eddie gets back to you soon.
Cheers
Ian
Hey Hey....All the takes sound great to me. Let's see what Fred can fit into the mix.....eddie
I've been pretty busy with other things so I haven't yet listened to Bobby's auditions, but if Eddie likes them then we'll try to put them in. I'm sure they are fine.
He liked your too Ian, so my intuition tells me, you should try to make a full blown drum separate Ian, and we'll cover the synth somewhere else. So we have control of the mix.
Once that is posted I'll try to assemble things. Eddie are you going to do a couple lead takes all the way through so we can grab the best parts of them and arrange them? Sorta like I did on this mix, and we'll do some arrangements:
http://fjamstudios.blogspot.com/2008/05/countryrock-half-way-lyrics-vocals.html
Hey Fred and Eddie
That's cool....I take it you would like the complete drum parts as wav seps.
The drum sounds I used were from my usual standard presets so if you wanted to add heavy fx as per the original part you could work on the seps or mix them in with the original.
Just give them another listen and make sure they dont clash with the new elements I haven't heard.
If OK then give me the nod and I will create the seps at the weekend.
Cheers Ian
A stereo mix with clicks on the front is what I'd like at the moment Ian. We are working arrangement and seps would make that cumbersome. Once we get a final arrangement you can think about posting seps. Thanks...
No probs Fred I will post later
Hi Fred
I just checked and the drum track posted should have the same start point as eddie's files so I guess you shouldn't need a click.... give me a shout if not
Cheers
Ok sounds good Ian.
Keeper, please delete the "Only You" piano file I uploaded in here by accident last night. This is the correct Piano file, Roland RD700sx,Yamaha Grand Piano Patch with a good bit of high end parametric EQ applied for the string buzz. This is a style I developed while playing with some Jazz guys years back, which leaves a LOT of room for other instruments to show through the mix. Sounds like shit when Soloed, but sits in a mix real nice! If the "ahead/behind" the downbeat is too disturbing for you, let me know, I can re-do it in a more tradional fashion. It just seemed to be the natural pattern to my ear. It also fits what I was thinking about the organ part ahead of time. ONE LAST THING guys. I've had 4 major spine surgeries and I'm on a ton of narcotics (the kind that everyone else would die for)! Unfortunatly, they make me a bit fuzzy now and then as evidenced by the 3 messed-up uploads. I'll pass off part of it as being my first time, but if it gets to where you can't or don't want to put up with the crap, just tell me and I'll bow out gracefully. If not, I'll bust my ass and we can all have a LOT of fun and make some bodaesoeous music together
Hey Bobbylee
Your back troubles sound really rough...a lot to go through....but you seem to be making a lot of sense to me..... you know your stuff.Just keep the idea's coming.
Cheers
Hi Bobbylee-
I just has a listen to your keyboard auditions. Sounds interesting. I'll try mixing it soon. Sounds like you have a good amount of talent there!
Looking forward to hearing YOUR songs posted too.
Nice sound!
It sounded quite lively, but we'll see how it sits in the mix.

Bobbylees's paino audition mixed.
Hey guys here's what I've been thinking about this project:
The Latest_Mix.mp3 should probably be changed to Ian's last posted mix, since his is the only real concrete audition that has been accepted (his drums). My keyboards have been accepted, as have Bobbylee's, but we have a bit of arrangement to do yet. Some of both auditions will be used, but all of Ian's will, so his could be used to update the project status here. We could no doubt add Ian, Bobbylee, and myself to the roster. Sound right? If so I'll update the status and post an announcement via google.
that would be fine by me LOL
Works for me. Crank up your chainsaw and hack away Oh-Great-One RFLMAO. Don't ever worry about ego probs with me. Take what you need, throw the rest in the trash. Besides, I'm busy workin' on lyrics. B.T.W. you have a good ear, you laid the piano in the track real nice.
Thanks Bobbylee-
As soon as Ian finds time topost his stereo drums I'll go to work on the arrangemnt in earnest.
Hey Fred
The drum stereo track is already up in mp3 form
http://fjam.servemp3.com/in_process/Mellow/5.5.08%20stonehead%20drums%20only.mp3
Did you want them as a wav ?
No mp3 is fine. I looked back through the messages, and I didn't see where you mention having posted the mp3. I guess I missed that. Ok I'll have at it. Thanks...
Bear with me on this folks. Not only do I have a lot on my plate, but I stop often to keep the fatigue level down. I've done some tweaking on Bobbylee's tracks for timing. I'm just now importing Ian's drums and the other separates. What is Axiom25? What is that track?
I like to tweak timing before I ever go into arrangement mode. We'll see if you like it or not. I will have something to post soon.
Hang in there. Just moving slow (as usual). LOL

1st mix using the separates, and preliminary tweaks and arrangements.
Keep in mind more parts are going to be added. This is just an update to let you hear my arrangement, and tweaks thus far.
If anyone is dead set against my work thus far, please let me know.
More tweaks are in the cards, as new parts are added. This is just where I stopped for now.
Bobbylee-
You do realize that you have EQed all of the low end out of your piano right? Your left hand should be much bassier.
This is why it is not usually a good idea to EQ a track before you send it up. It basically tied my hands to EQ it after the fact. EQ should be applied in the mix mode, because if you EQ it as you record it you are stuck with what is done. If you do it during mix mode, you can correct it with no problem as it's applied after the fact.
Yep! I realize that. And a hundred Guitar and Bass players love me for it. I use my left hand as a counterpoint for the Bass, not a dueling pistol. I know it's not the norm, and if you prefer, in the future, I'll run full range, but the mix doesn't get so crowded as when I play with a full grand piano patch. Like I said, it's your call, I have the midi, I can run it flat and re-send it to you. Let me know! Like I said no ego problem here.
It's about choices Bobbylee. If you send up full range, we have the choice to make it all top endy or not. If you EQ it beforehand there is no choice. We'll get it next time...
Listening to it now Fred....I guess I picked the right guy to mix this...It is sounding FAN f'ing TASTIC so far.....eddie
Thanks Eddie. I's not sounding too bad I agree. It'll get better as time goes on. Just bear with me. Lots going on here....
I've begun working on the organ today. It is not nearly as easy to fit against this rythm as the guitar was. I am doing it and making progross, but it is definitely slower than the piano work was. Just an update.
It's very hard to work with these tracks without having some sort of sync sounds on his tracks. It is working but it is more tedious, so hang in there, because I stop frequently to keep the fatigue down.
This is from the last lull break to the end. It is my arranGement idea for an organ lead using parts of what Bobbylee played. Hope it is not too far from what he had in mind.

Can you believe it's been over a year since my last post, on this and nobody has responded? It's why the work stopped on this long ago....
This is how projects die.... People just go silent, so work stops... I move on to others... it happens more often than not... a testement to poor communication....
Ah well such is life with musicians.
