Very cool start to a rocker Jerry!

Hi Jerry-

I downloaded your zip and uncompressed it. I am planning to import your wavs, and save the project once I have it synced. In the textfile you mentioned tempo change? I guess I'll see it once I get into it. It's not all at 92 BPM then?

Nice work man!

Here is the drum track used for this:

I've begun working on this progression Jerry.

Hi Freddy, yes the drums track is bpm 92. In other words it will line up great without using the beatmap. Later (on other projects) the beatmapping will come up huge when we start using tempo and meter changes. I mostly use this for lining up midi and rewire slaves to real drums. More on that later.

Hope I am posting in the correct area. I saw that a lyricist was needed for this new project. If I need to apply or audition some material for the project, let me know how to go about doing it, as I am very interested in being a part of this or any collaborative effort. I have a few songs posted on the forum, and can make some scratch tracks of previous collaborative efforts available, it it will help. I deffo like what I'm hearing so far, and hoping I can get involved in some capacity, word-wise.

Yes you got the hang of posting now Phil. Each e-mail will have a link hat takes you to the project page where you can post.

This is Jerry's baby. He's making the calls. Having said that I'd like to make a suggestion if I may.

I'll be posting auditions for Jerry's consumption and or "ok" very soon. I am working on the arrangement a bit to show him, and we will hopefully be developing the overall structure of the piece. It occurs to me that it might make it easier for you to write lyrics for it once we get that structure refined a bit. Might even want to wait until we come up with a melody, so you can keep it in mind when working syllables against it etc. Jerry is at the helm on this one though. Just my two cents.

OK Jerry, I posted an excerpt of my work so far. Wanted to check in with you before I went too far with it. I've tightened things up a bit, and changed the accents of the drums to follow your bassline a little better. That was my intent anyhow. Wanted to see what you thought of it. If you like it, I'll proceed. I stopped my edits just before where you modulate up. See what ya think:

Awaiting your feedback

Keeper,
Totally works for me. I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring and let it be known that I am interested and available as a lyricist. If I make the cut, just let me know when, and if that means waiting until the project is further along then I'm more than happy to do that.
Thanx - Phil

It's been quite awhile since I've worked with Jerry, but what I remember of him he's very easy to get along with, and open to ideas (along with being quick about things).

The e-mails should help you to monitor things. As you hear the rythm, and arrangement come together you could already have some ideas put together to present. The thing to remember is that the melody and the lyrics go hand in hand, so you might want to monitor and watch for the melody to appear in the process (what will be sung). When you hear the single note melody appear it should make things crystal clear. The rythm is good for getting started, but the melody will bring it home for you. You could get started, already with ideas to present to him with that in mind. Sure couldn't hurt anything.

It's been my experience that when an audition is not accepted, the submitter should not trash that idea. Rather keep it for another project. I can't tell you how many times I've submitted drum tracks or some other instrument, and they were not accepted, and then someone else got ahold of that drum track and took it in another direction, and made a totally different diamond out with it. That's the beauty of all this. There is no one way to do things....

But it is good to have one person controlling things to keep it organized. That's why the author or designated producer has the say so.

I have a huge archive of parts, and unfinished progressions. A lot of those were unaccepted auditions. I don't throw away much. Ya never know when someone is going to grab something and run with it. One reason for the lyric archive. Just keep archiveing the ideas and browsing for projects to jump in on....

I for one am glad you are interested... Just gotta try to be thick skinned in case someone has different visions for something and just keep moving ahead. You start to see who you are compatible with after while too.

What's up guys

Any fjam group members are welcome to contribute to any of my projects posted here at fjam. If you see a project that you might want to try something on...please do. Thanks too....I appreciate it. There is no wrong...its just do the best you can at the time and its good enough for me.

Freddy, that sounds great! Whatever you come up with would be awesome. Right now its just a few chord sequences and there is plenty of room to arrange anyway or other. When you think the structure is good we will add the rest of the parts. Also, I can replay any of this...for example to exactly 92 bpm ...its not a problem for me to do this again.

Thanks a lot guys

Jerry

Ok I'll proceed then. I haven't heard an need to redo anything yet Jerry. Mainly because the parts repeat, and I used the best in place of any slip ups. It's sounding pretty tight to me. I'll try to get the whole progression tight with bass drums and rythm guitar, and we can work on a solid song arrangement, and proceed from there.

If anyone has ideas they'd like to try out and want the separates I will be posting my edited separates and anyone can have a go at arrangement ideas too. Now is the time to explore for ideas...

Cool!

Did some more work on this. Stopped at just under 4 minutes for the day. It's roughed out. I want to do some more rolls in places, a build up or two, and I think I will remove a few of the crashes in a few places, but it's morphing. More later.. Just an update of today's work.

This is feeling like a Crazy Horse style song. Neil Young powerchords... LOL

Might have to do a couple of the chords over. Either slightly out of tune or intonation? Seems like one area of the fretboard... Intonation.

I bet you play the hell out of that guitar all the time. The frets are probably worn a little.

LVGD08 said...

lol...frets are way worn.. :-)

Freddy, that latest mix sounds great! Awesome job on that bro.

Jerry,
When I write lyrics for existing compositions, I like to make sure I'm on the right track before I commit and finish the whole thing. This is what I’m feeling so far after several listens to the track. If I get a go ahead (and I understand that isn’t tacit agreement to use the lyrics, just that you think I might be on the right track) then I’ll keep writing. Lemme know.

When I’m 92 (first draft lyrics)

Look at the stars
I hear ‘em callin’
Look back at you
And I’m fallin’ into
Bad habits and Love
Salvation won’t be enough

Can’t see a purpose
So I give into sin
Look back at you
And I’m fallin’ again
Bad habits and Love
Sal vation
Won’t be enough to save us

LVGD08 said...

Yes Phil, this is a great idea. Do you want to do a vocal on this one? The other one too (70 million years)? I'd like to hear it...yeah.

Remember...there is no wrong on any of my projects. I'm use to multiple versions on collabs. We have plenty of space too on 4shared so we can post as many mixes as we like and never run out of space. What I will do now is download Freddy's latest mix and update my project (make a second project).

Thanks Phil

Keeper said...

Might have to do some adjustment once you get a melody, but indeed looks like a good start Phil. :-)

Keeper said...

Jerry-

I've been working on this today. I'm seriously thinking about redoing the drumtrack from scratch. There doesn't seem to be the raw materials I want in order to do the drum rolls I am hearing with this. I think it'd actually go faster, and better if I did. Just so ya know what I'm up to. The beat is there, but not the rolls. So if the kit sounds different to you on the next mix you know what's up. I think you'll agree it's better.

Keeper said...

I'm also thinking the 4 minute mark is a good place to shoot for for length, so after i get this drum track done I'll start some arrangement brainstorming.

Inngr8 said...

I couldn't sing if my mother in laws life depended on it - I know some people who can, and will ask 'em, but I'm hoping that one of the people you have used in the past might sign on.

Keeper - Ima stooge sometimes - I recall you saying in an earlier post that I probably needed to hold off until the melody was added. I'm hoping that I can salvage most of the lyric, but it is just a starting point and I'm sure it will start evolving as the song does.

Phil

Keeper said...

It sure doesn't hurt to get a jump on things Phil. I'm starting anew on the drum track too. It hapens all the time that first plan is amended midstream. Ya just don't know sometimes until you jump in just as you have done...

Best regards

Keeper said...

Yeah I've done quite a bit on a new drum track today. Much more control, and you'll even be able to get the drum separates for final mix if you want them. I'm liking this much better... Hopefully you will too.

I'm hoping to post a new mix tomorrow. I gotta stop now cuz I'ts bedtime and the wife works tomorrow.

:-P

Keeper said...

A little different approach. More tom rolls, less crash cymbals, more syncropated stops with guitar and bass (instead of offbeat I had before), and the drums are virgin, meaning we'll be able to EQ and effect them as we see fit. Will do the last part next time I'm in the studio. Stopped to rest. This is much more what I'm hearing in my head now.

Hmmmm-

That last mix had too much bass & drums in it and had a bit of artifacts in it. I did it in a hurry. Here's a cleaner mix to show you better the new drum scheme. I will finish this aspect today.

DOWNLOAD<-- Click here.

Keeper said...

Sounds like I still have parts of the kit too loud. I'll nudge down the kick and the toms just a bit next mix. LOL Just loud enough to cause a hair of distortion. I'll get it...

LVGD08 said...

Freddy, that is really great!

I like this a lot and will be working on it soon. I have ideas and I can get some sample mixes going fairly easy. I think the drums sound excellent. A really great job on that Freddy, thanks bro

Check it out....snowing here in Henderson (Las Vegas). We had five inches of snow today and more on the way. This is really rare for Las Vegas.

Keeper said...

I did some more work on it yesterday, but didn't get to finish. Still just a little more to do today. I've nudged the toms down just a little more and I think it has cleaned things up a lot i the mix. Will post soon.

Snow in Vegas huh? These climates are really changing. Not good. We will have a white Christmas here in MI.

Keeper said...

I got through the entire progression today before I stopped. I may want to do some more tweaks (after the vocal arrangement is in place). The things I would change now on the drums probably only a drummer would notice. Most of it is in place like I am hearing it. I have the majority of the guitar intonation fixed through editing. I can probably fix the remainder. It's sounding better for intonation I believe. Sounding more like a band now. Tighter and most intonation. I stop before my fatigue gets high, because we do our best work when fresh. That's why I stop often. Actually means I get more done in the long run, because less is apt to need changing later. It's getting there......

Morph3

Jerry this project is on your 4shared.com account so you have admin rights. You should login and clean up the directory of older tracks. Here's my suggestion to delete:

When I'm 92_Morph2.mp3
(2)When I'm 92_Morph2.mp3
When I'm 92_Morph1.mp3
When I'm 92_Morph2.mp3
When I'm 92_Test_Drums.mp3 when_im_92_jerrymix1.mp3

Really all we need kept, is morph3, and the zip you first posted (as a backup).

Keeper said...

Think I'll change that one roll, and tighten up in a few spots. Feels a tad late comming in on the measure. Slight hesitation or something. I'll smooth it out.

Keeper said...

I changed the transition drum rolls a little to help the continuity. Tweaked guitar just a bit. On to the next step:

Guess I'll take a chance that Jerry is actually checking his e-mail once in awhile....

Jerry-

I did everything I could to help your intonation on this one through editing. I think I helped it a lot since your initial post (you may not agree), but I'm still hearing it in the guitar. Since you said you bought a new guitar, what say ye I make a new guitarless mix, for this one and you give it a go with the new guitar, so we have a good fret guitar track?

If indeed you do come around and respond, I will post said mix.

Then I guess the next logical step would be a vocalist. Been no takers on that front. I could probably do it if my voice were normal. How about you?

He hasn't been responding to messages so we'll see how this goes (fingers crossed)...
