Project initiated:

http://fjamstudios.blogspot.com/2009/02/blues-rock-politics-and-greed-bass-and.html<---

I went in and activated the folder to make it public, set the upload permissions, and deleted the extra folder you had in there. We need to know the BPM (tempo), and it'd help speed things up if we knew the key and chords. Posting the lyrics isn't a bad idea too. You might want to evaluate the key you picked for this, as it also seems to be up at the top of your range. Nice tune...

BPM = 120 He's working out the chords, and lyrics...

Ok, worked out most of the chords. Posted a doc on 4shared. Been a long time since I played it and kinda forgot how to play it. Itll come back eventually...of course if anyone is interested and needs it quicker than eventually im sure i could motivate.

Politics and Greed

How I wish I could fall asleep
And wake again in another day
But my eyes are open wide and I see

Our world is changing the damage done
Some say the time is growing short and
I don’t know if I can stay here

Looking back at the gift we had
Life in balance a miracle.
How could we let it slip away?
Still ignoring the warning signs
What will be left behind
After the Politics and Greed?

How I wish it was all a dream
This haunting omen of suffering
But my ears will not be fooled and I hear

Talk of science and storms to come
They say our time is growing short and
I don’t know if we can stay here

Looking back at the gift we had
Life in balance a miracle.
How could we let it slip away?
Still ignoring the warning signs
What will be left behind
After the Politics and Greed?

Do you have separates for this Sean?

excellent start. I'm downloading the starter mix to add a drum loop and some bass...

Hi - OCD Moose here... I just posted an audition for bass, drums, slide guitar, sax, organ and arrangement - lol, sometimes I get carried away.

This is by no means a final master, and there are fixes to be done on some of the parts before I would post separates.

If you like any of it - use it; if not, I had a good time with it! /;)

Cheers!

The Moose is in the hoose!
I was thinking no one liked this one but then once you start you work quick. I move much slower but I guess that is because I am used to working by myself and sometimes things take forever. I listened twice and like the contributions. They changed the direction of the song tremendously-which I guess happens often with other peoples interpretations. I had this song as a sad, melancholy one (due to that whole end of the world thing:) The rhythm lightened it up-especially on the chorus and lead-which will take me some getting used to -but I like on first listens. Maybe it works better with a more upbeat feel... I definately like the sax. That lyric-less part in the middle I was originally going to put some kind of a tape of a news broadcast recording but never found so I gave up.

I should state-taking the recent posts about copyright credits into consideration-that I have already copyrighted this one. This song has been at the phase I posted it for at least a year prob more.

I can't imagine that folks didn't like the original song. Perhaps it was a little harder to envision an arrangement for. I took the cue from your rhythm guitar. I think George Harrison's treatment of deep topics may have inspired this arrangement. Either way, it did happen while inspired and grew organically.

This post may even spur different ones (wait and see?). You haven't heard from Ken yet. If anyone wants to use any of the tracks from this - they are more than welcome.

If you do decide to go with this or if someone wants one of these parts, I need to retrack a bit here and there before posting separates for master mixing (the bass gets off beat in the beginning - how did I miss that?).

But I'd like to let this simmer awhile to see what happens.

Moose-

I'm just into the studio and fixing to have a listen. I'm good at fixing timing issues, if you want to post your separates. You have a 4shared.com account so if you want to post the seps before you go out of town....

Who said they didn't like this? I think he should maybe be picking lower keys for the vox, which he has already acknowledged on another song, but that's not the same as saying I didn't like it...

I've been waiting for other people to jump in because I'm involved in the majority of these projects. I have been waiting purposely to give other folks a chance. Looks like Moose took that chance...

Keeper said...

Just had a listen.... Very nice Moose! Tastefully done man!

I didn't hear any major timing issues. If I tweaked this it'd be minor tweaks. Very small timing issues IMHO. I could perhaps make it radio ready by small tweaks...

Sean-

I don't feel like Moose made it any happier than your peppy guitar had already setup. You kinda set the feel with that guitar. But it's not overly happy, or peppy. Sounds good to me for feel, and I think Moose has done a great job!

I'd still like to have the separates, and I'd do minor tweaks of all the tracks to make them radio tight against the drums....

Very tastey!

Keeper - I've uploaded the separates (along with some extras) in a two file RAR archive to this folder in my 4Shared:

Direct dl links:

http://www.4shared.com/file/91295815/f8a635d4/PG_Mooseparatespart2.html?dirPwdVerified=e406b38a

Sorry that I couldn't use OMF... until I get a proper card for the machine SONAR is on, I can only produce 24bit files - and these are 32bit from my studio.

Do your thing, Mr. K! Cheers! /;)

Moose-

Got the 2 rars with no problem,a and uncompressed. Also read your readme. I will do one mix with all of your work unchanged. And there is one I want to do and AUDITION a few cymbal hits I was hearing. They may not be necessary, but I'll show them as an afterthought. That's really about all that came to me on your drums. I would have used crashed on the syncropation you did, but you may not like that, so I will do non-destructive edits. I liked 100% of what you did, and the crashes are just an afterthought. Might not like or need them...

Like I said I will be working all these tracks to your drums, just to the point where there is no question it's tight. I don't want to over do the tweaking. Just enough that the listener can indulge in listening to the production and never get distracted by timing. That's really all I'm ever after with timing tweaks. Not perfection, but removal of distraction. If timing is distracting they don't focus on your song/production.

It's might have already been tight enough. What I will do here is very small tweaks.... I'm more of a stickler for timing than most, so most listeners probably would not have gone there. That's how little there is timing issues...

Might be a day or so before I can really jump in on this. So it'll probably be here when you get home Moose. Great work in my opinion!

Take care!

Have at it, man... and big thanks!

I'll still be looking at stuff here until I pack it out Friday evening (for messages and updates). Wouldn't want to slight anybody that took the time to comment or send a message. Might miss somethin'! LOL - Cheers! /;)

Hey Guys...
I listened a bunch more times and it has growed on me a whole lot. Great tone on the bass. The build in the second half after the lead... starting with the sax. Bass line picks up too. Very nice. Slide guitar blends in perfectly. Tasty is the word.
Little unsure about the opening hi-hats and the up tempo lead but that may catch on with me too after a few more listens. I guess the change on the lead keeps it interesting. Is that a change from half time?
Great stuff Moose! I can hear the inspiration:)

Anonymous said...

It's both the bass and drum interaction that creates that feel, from half-time to straight almost going to a double-time feel via the bass during the sax solo before reverting back to half-time - picking up again at the end by the bass.

I went through an obscene amount of bass guitars before I found a combination that provided the tones that made me happy without being a one-trick pony. Multiply that by ten for my guitars - lol. So... thanks!

But by all means, use what you like of it. This was just how lightning struck here; and you may yet have something different in mind... or simply pick up on a variation that eluded me.

I should mention that Keeper has the original midi file & kit for the drums; and can perhaps make some changes to the hi-hats, etc. that would meet better with your vision for this.

Again - there could be someone waiting in the wings with another arrangement of this that will yet fill the bill for you. Anything can happen on F-Jam!

I suppose that a lot of my enthusiasm has to do with the sentiments of this song, which really hit home with me... yesterday, while out and about running errands I couldn't seem to stop playing it repetitiously in the van. I hope it ends up a version that will evoke the same for you. Great song!

Cheers!

MLINYHI said...

Hey Moose,

This version does do it. Its just small things I havent adjusted to yet. 90% is on the money.

Thanks:)

Sean-

I believe I have fixed the notifications to show yours and Moose's posts. Try posting to this project again and let's see if I did.

MLINYHI said...

Ok, test post and follow up to my last post...

Problem for me is I get used to things a certain way. When recording I listen to something a million times. So, it takes me a bunch of listening to get used to something new. Most of the stuff you (Moose) did on this I liked right away so that's proof positive(to me) its good.

The Forsake Reality chords/melody I purposely posted before I got too involved with them-for this reason. I also did it that way to see how the site worked.

The Admin said...

Ok I couldn't figure out why some of the blog posts were making it to the googlegroup and being sent out (syndicated) as notifications, and others did not. It seemed to be ignoring posts from your and Moose.

So I've approached it a different way now Sean. It consistently sends ME the notifications directly to my e-mail (not via googlegroup). So I've setup outlook express to forward the direct mails I get to the googlegroup now. It's a sure thing you'll get notification. The down side of doing it this way is that it doesn't forward mail until I check mine. I think what I'll do is have outlook express automatically check my mail every five minutes wether I'm here or not. So it just means there could be a delay if I haven't checked my own mail for a bit... But it'll be a sure thing that it'll get delivered this way Sean.

Sean-

In case you didn't pick up on this, Moose is gone for the weekend. I believe he said he will be back next week.

Anonymous said...

Sean - take some time and listen to it, and when you have a pretty solid idea what you would like to be different, send me a message so I can try to accommodate the changes.

After some discussion and tweaking, I have posted the edited separates (RAR) for mix production or further arrangement.

My first master is here:

See how they run... er, it flies! /;)

Hey Guys

Just an FYI..I am trying to see if someone wants to do a little video for this song. I think it could be quite powerful with some storm/nature/etc images. I posted on a few newsgroup message boards and here at FJAM. Will see what happens.

Check out this video I found while searching:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzqumbhfxRo

Vid-E-Ohs are always a good idea, if you can come up with one. It will give you more places to showcase the song (YouTube, etc...).

The trick is finding footage to use that doesn't have rights attached to it.

Here's a video a friend (who wrote the lyrics) did for one of my songs:

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=7697334

It's a mess, but you get the idea. Too much of the material is protected (which is why it won't be showing up anywhere else). It was his account set up for the VRS Band.

I plan to retrack the song later this year. It deserves better than it got - lol.

Anonymous said...

BTW - that was him in the video playing air bass, not me.

MLINYHI said...

Moose,

Good song. Got a kinda "new wave" vibe to it? Cant think of the names of the type of band it reminds me of but it is quite good. Video is actually good too. You have several different styles you work in?
I could see why it would have copyright issues though.

I was hoping to get some basic videos of storms and nature etc..but will prob run into the same problem to a lesser dergree. Could also use still images if they are easier. Fred recommended a TV card. Havent had a chance to look into it yet.

Anonymous said...

Thanks!

Several different styles? That would be the all-time understatement. LOL. /;)

It's one of my biggest problems... I like, have worked in, and write in too many different genres; and tend to get bored when I stick with one - which, let's face it - is what the average listener can handle.

I'm trying to focus more on Rock generally these days for that very reason.

MLINYHI said...

No emails all weekend from FJAM. Fred, do you need bail money or something? :)umm, thats a JOKE!!! Get it??

I think I am going to give up on the video idea for now. Got no replies on it and did a little searching myself for footage but didnt see much. If I could only plug a USB into my head and download what i see into the computer.

That would work great with music too!
I guess thats the goal for all of us-gettin what we hear in our heads recorded.

Keeper said...

Really? You didn't see the mixes I posted for Ed's project called "Untitled"? Yahoo must really be messed up cuz they show as having gone out... I posted two mixes, and no not from jail. Notification numbers 1382 & 1383 went out from google but I guess yahoo didn't let them come to you. I'm glad I don't use yahoo.

MLINYHI said...

Nope. Last one I got before this was Fri at 6pm. Smoke signals would work betterer.

The Admin said...

Well google sent the notifications out Sean. That's how we go the notification numbers. The googlegroup numbers the notifications, when it sends them out, so the site is indeed sending them out. In this case I am quite sure yahoo is at fault.

You have a g-mail accoun that is associated with your google account. All you have to do is activate it and start using it. If you decide to try this let me know, so we can change it on your forum, and notifications account.

The Admin said...

When I went and looked at the date I sent the bass mix it was indeed Friday night. You are right. Nothing was posted at all on Saturday. I was the last person to post anything.

Yeah if you aren't going to gather the video...
